I baked my very first bread from my sourdough starter that I have been babying for the last 2 weeks. Taking care of a sourdough starter is very easy but a daily task. To start your starter you combine equal amounts of flour and water and let is hang out outside for a few hours to pick up some of the yummy wild yeasts from the air. Once your starter is bubbling and active you want to feed it every single day (some say twice a day AT LEAST). I've removing about 80% of the starter and replacing it with equal parts flour and water. The removed starter can be used for yummy little projects on the side (sourdough English muffins or pancakes are my favorite). Above is a photo of my first loaf next to the bubbling starter! Stay tuned for recipes and experiment as I play around with this living, eating, bubbling starter!
